Michael McCurdy

Michael McCurdy

Michael McCurdy grew up in Portland, Oregon & began playing drums at age 9. He studied drumming under Motown & Jazz legend Mel Brown as a teen and began playing in local bands in high school & beyond. In 2005, he earned a Master’s degree in early childhood education and moved to the Kitsap Peninsula. In 2007 he became the music teacher at Wolfle Elementary in Kingston. He also began playing guitar & going to local open mics. In 2017 he was awarded North Kitsap School District Elementary Teacher of the Year. He has also hosted the all-ages, Thursday Open Mics at Downpour Brewing for 6 years running and been a big advocate for local music as a way to build & connect community.
His musical tastes are all over the map and you never know what he might play from his vast catalog of eclectic covers or original material. Whatever he plays, you know his heart and soul are in it and his vocal range and rhythmic playing of stripped down material will always leave its mark.

When he’s not teaching music with children, you can often find him out and about locally either hosting Open Mic, playing drums/percussion with local bands or playing guitar and singing solo shows or with his other projects Skunk Bay Troubadours & Three Horse Carousel.
